Dr Karin Gueijen

Chair of the Supervisory Board

I joined RWII to help facilitating refugees to voice their needs and wishes during the process of building their lives in the Netherlands. Governance studies increasingly recognizes that users should be able to have a say in the services they use. On the one hand this is for instrumental reasons: it can make the service more efficient and effective. On the other hand, user-participation is considered important for democratic reasons: it may make the service more just and fair. Services provided to refugees still have a relatively limited capacity to include users’ voice over their needs and wishes. RWII aims to improve this situation. I am happy to contribute to this mission.

Dr Karin Geuijen was appointed Chair of the Supervisory Board in December 2020. Dr Geuijen is Assistant Professor of public management at Utrecht University. Her research interest focuses on experimental collaborative governance, specifically in the domain of forced migration studies.

Currently, she co-leads the Horizon 2020 funded research program Welcoming Spaces which aims to answer the question of how to contribute to the revitalisation of shrinking areas in the EU while also offering a welcoming space for non-EU migrants to pursue their life projects. Prior to this, she was a member of the evaluation team of the Utrecht Refugee Launch Pad: an innovation in the reception of asylum seekers.

Additional functions:
